Your Wedding Video in 3D

by Keith on March 18, 2010 in News, Technology

3D Wedding Video IrelandFollowing on from the amazing 3D film, Avatar, it is almost a given certainty that you will be able to relive your wedding day in 3D in the not so distant future!

Here at Keith Malone Wedding Films, we’re already looking at the available and pending technology. We were among the first Irish studios to offer weddings on Blu-ray disc. It is our goal to continue our innovation and be among the first to offer 3D Wedding Videos in Ireland. (Believe it or not, many Irish wedding video studios still only offer the outdating Standard Definition and VHS formats!)

3D is without doubt still in its infancy at this present time. In fact, there are still no actual standards agreed upon within the television industry. Format wars similar to VHS -v- Betamax and HDDVD -v- Blu-ray are quite likely.

There exists a 3D technology out there that doesn’t actually require the wearing of special glasses. We believe that this will become a huge selling point for this particular branch of 3D. On the other hand, wearing of 3D glasses may become standard and something that we will all get used to. Who knows at this stage? It’s too early to tell.

As always, we will keep you updated via our blog with progress on 3D wedding video as it happens.

We've just been licensed by Dolby

by Keith on May 20, 2009 in News, Technology

Dolby Laboratories in San Francisco have just licensed us to use their Dolby Digital logo on our wedding and corporate DVD productions. The application process involved Dolby reviewing our work to ensure that it met the required technical specifications. Once we were found to be technically compliant, Dolby issued us with the official trademark agreement documents.

So what does this mean to brides? Probably not a whole lot except that they can be assured that we go to great lengths to ensure that we continue to produce high quality wedding DVDs that not only look good, but also sound good too!

Ok, this isn’t a typical wedding related blog entry but I wanted to share a really useful website with you. This will appeal to almost anyone who writes their own original content for a website or blog.

Copyscape.com

The site is called copyscape and they provide a really useful service. Basically, they trawl the web and blogs for content that closely resembles the content from the website URL provided. A very useful tool!  It can also be used to help determine if your content is original or ‘accidently’ copied.

They provide a basic free service but also a more in-depth premium version that is actually very reasonably priced. An absolute must for any content creator who values his/her original content! You’ll find it here: http://www.copyscape.com/

Roaming in Co. Carlow!

by Keith on January 13, 2009 in Technology

Here is something for O2 mobile phone customers to be aware of!

My latest O2 bill popped through the letterbox the other morning, it looked a little higher than normal so I flicked through the detail. Sitting there in black & white were two roaming charges in the space of an hour on one particular day in December. Now here’s the good part! I was actually in Co. Carlow filming a wedding for that entire day. My foot never stepped out of the country for at least the last 6 months. That includes going anywhere near Northern Ireland either!!

O2 are looking into it, but thought I’d post the info here for other customers to be aware of it.

2008 :: A year in review

by Keith on December 17, 2008 in News, Technology

What a year it has been! Our busiest year so far. We’re still very busy working our way through the Autumn backlog (hence the severe lack of posts recently) and doing our best to get as many DVDs out before Christmas. Naturally, we won’t be cutting any corners in our quality department to meet this demand – just putting in the extra hours required between now and then!

Each year, we strive to keep up with the latest technology and this year certainly was no different. Early in 2008 saw our conversion to High Definition (HD) where we purchased a Sony PMW-EX1 along with an LG 6-speed Blu-ray burner. To our knowledge, we were one of the first wedding video studios in Ireland to not only film in HD but also capable of delivering in HD. Towards the end of 2008, it still amazes me at the lack of other wedding video companies who can offer this service.

Our main editing PCs were at that time sufficient enough to handle the extra overhead required from HD editing, but to keep things fresh, we’ve just ordered the fastest Asus Rampage Extreme II motherboard and the latest and greatest Intel CPU (i7 @ 3.2 Ghz). Once these components arrive and we build our new beast, it promises to render HD footage twice as fast as our existing HD machines. Believe it or not, this will eventually translate to a quicker delivery time of our completed wedding DVDs.

Earlier this month, we also added a second Sony PMW-EX1 to our arsenal. We love this camera so much that we just couldn’t say no. Taking advantage of the weak sterling currency was a nice bonus too!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2009!

Video and Photography :: blurring the line

by Keith on November 14, 2008 in Technology

I’m not a fortune teller, but I don’t think I need to be to see that the latest video and digital SLR camera offerings seem to be converging towards one single product, “a digital still and motion camera” as RED likes to call their latest offering.

Canon’s yet to be released 5D mk II SLR camera (I want one) apart from shooting 20 something megapixel stills can also capture full HD (1080P) video clips. Short clips mind you, but we can see where this is going. I understand that Nikon’s D90 can capture video too. It’s no secret that 4K cameras (higher resolution than HD) as offered by RED are capable of producing pretty high resolution stills when single frames are captured.

For certain amateur enthuasists, these developments are cool. A single product that can capture decent stills as well as video. For certain professionals, this causes confusion and some even see it as a possible threat. I don’t. Photography and Videography have a common goal, i.e. to capture and preserve the moment. However, the two disciplines are completely different and they nicely compliment each other, especially when it comes to weddings. So I say, long live the wedding videographer, (and the photographer!).

Why choose HD or Blu-Ray for your wedding?

by Keith on November 1, 2008 in Technology

I’ll try to sum-up the advantages of high-definition (HD) video in as few sentences as possible!

HD stands for “high-definition”. This means that it has a much sharper image and shows more vibrant colours than ordinary resolution can (like your old TV set).

By the way, to keep things simple, think of “Blu-ray” as a disc that looks exactly like an ordinary DVD but it plays HD video. An ordinary DVD cannot play high-definition video.

So why bother with HD?

- get the most out of the new 42″ plasma TV that you have or are thinking of getting
- you have a PlayStation3 (they can play Blu-ray DVDs)
- you want to preserve your wedding day memories in the best possible technology available today
- It’s almost 2009, get with the programme!
